Implementation Framework for Ayush Intervention into the School Health and Wellness Programme In Kerala

The State Health Systems Resource Centre – Kerala (SHSRC-K) convened the second Stakeholder Consultative Meeting on 15 June 2026 to develop an operational roadmap for integrating AYUSH interventions into the School Health & Wellness Programme in Kerala.

The consultative meeting brought together senior officials and field-level officers from the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), National Health Mission (NHM), Department of Health Services (DHS), Department of General Education, SCERT, DIET, CHC Perumkadavila, and FHC Kunnathukal.

The meeting began with a welcome address by Dr. Jathavedus Mohanlal, Assistant Director, SHSRC-K. This was followed by a special address by Dr. Muhseena N, State Program Manager, ISM, National AYUSH Mission. Dr. Gayathri R S, District Programme Manager, NAM, Thiruvananthapuram, also addressed the gathering. Dr. Aravind Chandru B, Research Officer, SHSRC-K, provided an overview of the study objectives and progress to date Presentations were delivered on the Ayurvidya programme by Dr. Aswathy Nair A S, Ayurvidya Medical Officer, NAM, and on the Aksharam Arogyam programme by Dr. Amar Fettle, State Nodal Officer, Adolescent Health/School Health Programme. Dr. Aravind Chandru B, Research Officer, SHSRC-K, presented the draft Common Minimum Programme for AYUSH interventions and outlined the proposed pilot in Perumkadavila Block, Thiruvananthapuram district.

The afternoon session was dedicated to developing the operational roadmap for the pilot. The group discussion was moderated by Dr Aravind Chandru B, and arrived at consensus on training requirements, timelines, coordination and reporting mechanisms, selection of specific schools, monitoring committee composition, and risk mitigation strategies. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Parvathy Thampy, Research Coordinator, SHSRC-K.
