Duties and Responsibilities of Medical Officers

Duties and Responsibilities of Medical Officers

During the current financial year, SHSRC Kerala played a key role in finalizing the duties and responsibilities of Medical Officers working in hospitals under the Health Services Department. The process involved detailed review and vetting of roles across various categories of doctors, particularly in taluk-level and major hospitals.

The positions covered included Hospital Superintendents, Deputy Superintendents, Resident Medical Officers (RMOs), Casualty Medical Officers (CMOs), Assistant Surgeons, Specialty Cadre doctors (common duties), Chief Consultants, and Junior/Consultant/Senior Consultants. In addition, general guidelines for Ward Duty Medical Officers and Call Duty responsibilities were also evaluated.

A total of five meetings were conducted in this financial year to review, discuss, and refine the job descriptions and responsibilities of doctors in major hospitals. Each cadre level was discussed in detail during these meetings, and inputs were gathered systematically. The discussions under this agenda were completed for all relevant categories of medical officers.

SHSRC Kerala actively participated in all meetings, contributing to the evaluation process and drafting of the proposal. As a result of these deliberations, the final duties and responsibilities of Medical Officers were formally consolidated and finalized.
