Cuban Collaboration

The Kerala delegation conveyed to the Cuban authorities the interest of the Kerala Government to collaborate on six key areas of health services in a manner mutually beneficial to both states. The Kerala side also expressed its willingness to send a team of experts to the Republic of Cuba for working out detailed collaborative action plans beneficial to the Cuban health system.

The Cuban side also informed the willingness to collaborate in the identified areas of healthcare and send a team of experts to Kerala to do a joint assessment of the healthcare setup of Kerala, develop a detailed action plan for collaborative programmes in the Kerala Health Sector. To take the understanding forward, six domains have been identified by SHSRC for the mutual exchange of knowledge in the public health and medical sector for achieving universal health care: (i) Primary healthcare, (ii) Control and Management of Tropical diseases, (iii) Biotechnology, (iv) Telemedicine, (v) Ayurveda, and (vi) Diabetic Foot Management.

In future it was decided for advancing collaboration, and working group will be formed led by senior officials from both sides to focus on the six areas of collaboration. The working group will visit the Republic of Cuba and the State of Kerala for a preliminary study, and an action plan regarding the major focus of the joint venture will be developed. Based on this study report, a formal MoU have been signed between the Two. The working group will develop specific plans, initiatives, and team members for each area of collaboration, as well as the corresponding timelines. In the bilateral collaboration, the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC) has assisted the Kerala Government in identifying six areas of interest for study, crafting press statements, booklets, and concept notes. This Cuban collaboration marks a significant achievement for the Kerala Government's Health Department, with SHSRC playing a pivotal role in its success."
