Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research

The State Health Systems Resource Centre–Kerala successfully hosted a workshop on Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on 29th July 2025. The event brought together experts and professionals dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards in health research. The workshop commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Jithesh V, Executive Director of SHSRC-Kerala.


Dr. Priya Thomas, Professor, Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology at Annoor Dental College, served as the external resource person, delivering a comprehensive talk on the ICMR Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Participants. Her session provided crucial insights into the principles safeguarding human subjects in research.


Following this, Dr. Jathavedus Mohanlal, Assistant Director at SHSRC-Kerala, delved into the critical aspects of Ethics Committee responsibilities, functions, and the paramount importance of establishing clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Dr. Jithesh V also presented an informative overview of The New Drugs and Clinical Trials (NDCT) Rules, highlighting the latest regulatory frameworks governing clinical trials in India.The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Parvathy Thampy, Research Officer at SHSRC-Kerala.


Attendees included members of the Ethics Committee from General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, as well as the dedicated research officers and research assistants of SHSRC-Kerala, all actively contributing to a robust discussion on ethical research practices.
