Azim Premji University, Bhopal

The State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC) recently facilitated a month-long field practicum for students pursuing their Master’s in Public Health (MPH) at Azim Premji University (APU), Bhopal. This collaboration was designed to provide students with an immersive and comprehensive understanding of Kerala’s primary health system, renowned for its efficiency and community-centric approach.

As part of this multi-district learning experience, students visited various Family Health Centres (FHCs), including those in tribal areas, to gain first-hand insights into the functioning of primary healthcare delivery systems. These visits enabled them to observe and analyse the integration of community health practices, tribal healthcare initiatives, and the role of local governance in strengthening health systems.

The field practicum not only equipped students with practical knowledge but also fostered a deeper appreciation for Kerala’s public health achievements and challenges. By engaging with healthcare professionals, community health workers, and local communities, the students gained valuable perspectives on the ground realities of healthcare delivery in both urban and rural settings.

In addition to the field practicum, SHSRC has been officially invited by Azim Premji University to participate in various workshops and training sessions conducted for their MPH students. These workshops aim to further enhance the students’ understanding of public health practices and provide them with opportunities to engage with experts and practitioners in the field.
