Advancing stroke care units with National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) standards.

To advance stroke care across the state, the SHSRC-Kerala is leading an ICMR-funded implementation research project titled: “Upscaling of Primary Stroke Care Units in Kerala to Certified Stroke Care Centers.”

The project aims to transform selected stroke units into internationally recognized centres through World Stroke Organization (WSO) certification, aligned with National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) standards.

As part of this initiative, SHSRC-Kerala recently held a series of virtual meetings with NABH officials to discuss the accreditation pathway for government health department stroke care units.

NABH a constituent board of the Quality Council of India sets benchmarks for healthcare quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care across the country.

During these discussions, the NABH team guided the project representatives on the accreditation process, including portal registration and submission of required documents. The Executive Director and Project Research Scientist from SHSRC-Kerala participated in the meetings, working closely with NABH coordinators to finalize the steps toward integrated WSO certification and NABH accreditation.

The study initially focuses on stroke care units across six districts in Kerala, which are being prepared to meet both national and global standards of excellence in stroke care delivery.
